The Lost Gate by Orson Scott Card
The Lost Gate was a good fantasy book with solid characters and a believable mythology.
Dan North is supposed to be a god. His parents rule their family of gods and he is supposed to be the best yet. Everyone is disappointed when Danny shows no affinity for any type of power and cast him off as useless. But Danny has a power they're all afraid of; one that they all fear enough to kill him on sight.
