Without Tess by Marcella Pixley
Without Tess is a touching story about two little girls, one odd and peculiar and the other that would give anything to be part of her sister's world. Tess is odd. She believes in magic and won't seem to let go of it. Lizzie stands by her older sister always, witnessing her sister's odd thoughts and drawings . Tess, being light from her lack of nutrition, died a painful death in the sea with Lizzie as witness. Lizzie steals her sister's Unicorn Journal at the burial. Inside it are Tess' poems and drawings. Every drawing and poem in the book is a story in which Lizzie shares. Lizzie struggles to continue without her sister.
I very much enjoyed this story, some parts touching, some parts like nothing you would believe. The book transfers its readers to another world. I would want any kid in middle school and high school to read this book.
