Close to Famous by Joan Bauer
In the book Close to Famous a young girl named Foster finds herself in a strange town after her mother, a backup singer, breaks up with her boss, an Elvis impersonator. Now Foster must learn how to cope in a new town that is overshadowed by a prison. Foster, who is now 11, has to learn how to read, something that she has tried to keep a secret. While going through this difficult time in her life, Foster uses her amazing cooking skills to land a job as a cupcake baker for a restaurant.
Over all, I thought this book was very good. Joan Bauer has a unique style that just brings readers in. She also knows a lot about difficult situations, it seems. I would give this book a nine out of ten.
